Every day, Hotline Outer Banks’ thrift stores help do something extraordinary: they turn donated items and community support into real services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
But behind every donation accepted, every item stocked, and every purchase made, there are volunteers helping make it all possible.
Right now, Hotline Outer Banks is especially looking for volunteer cashiers at its thrift store locations across the Outer Banks.
For many volunteers, working the register becomes about far more than retail. It is a chance to meet people, stay connected to the community, share conversations, and be part of something meaningful. Some volunteers come in for a few hours each week. Others have been part of the Hotline family for years.
As Carol, one of our volunteer cashiers recently shared, volunteering at the thrift store has become one of the highlights of her week. The stores are filled with regular customers, friendly faces, laughter, teamwork, and the knowledge that every shift helps support survivors in our community. Hotline’s thrift stores also play an important role in sustainability. Shopping secondhand helps reduce waste, keeps usable items out of landfills, and gives clothing, furniture, and household goods a second life. Every donation and purchase helps support both survivors and the environment — a true
community cycle of giving back.
No retail experience is required — just a welcoming attitude and a willingness to help. Whether you are retired, new to the area, looking to meet people, or simply searching for a meaningful way to give back, volunteering at Hotline Outer Banks thrift store is an opportunity to make a real difference close to home.
